WHO CAN LIVE IN VANDALIA APARTMENTS?

Vandalia Apartments is open to all undergraduate (excluding first time freshman and first time transfer students with less then 29 credit hours), graduate, professional, veteran and international students.

WHERE IS VANDALIA APARTMENTS LOCATED?

Vandalia Apartments is located on Falling Run Road near the College of Business & Economics and the Life Sciences Building on the downtown campus.

HOW CLOSE IS VANDALIA APARTMENTS TO CAMPUS?

Depending on where you are going on the downtown campus, the average walk time to the Mountainlair is under five minutes.

HOW DO I LEASE AT VANDALIA APARTMENTS?

You can apply online or visit us on-site in our leasing office.

If you want to live at Vandalia Apartments, but you are not able to come in for an appointment, please call our office at at 304-293-5840 or 304-293-0543 for more information on how you can complete the leasing process from a distance.

WHAT IS A DOUBLE OCCUPANCY LEASE?

A double occupancy lease is a lease to share an apartment in a two bedroom unit with another person. Some bedrooms are furnished with either twin or full size beds. Roommate matching is available.

HOW LONG ARE THE LEASE TERMS?

All leases run August 1st – July 15th.

WHEN CAN I MOVE IN?

You can move in anytime during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. – 4:45 p.m., excluding university holidays. If you can not move in during that time period, please call the office to see if after hours move in with a staff member can be arranged.

IS FINANCIAL AID ACCEPTED?

Yes! All residents of Vandalia Apartments are WVU students. If you plan on using financial aid to pay for your apartment, please let the front desk staff know at the time you sign your lease. They will make the appropriate billing changes.

IS THERE AN APPLICATION FEE?

Yes. There is a $25 non-refundable application fee that will be billed to your student account upon submission of your application.

HOW MUCH IS THE RESERVATION FEE?

A standard reservation fee of $400.00 is due at lease signing or after the application process to secure your apartment. Once your lease is signed, your reservation fee then becomes your security deposit. The security deposit will be returned to tenants upon satisfactory completion of a move-out inspection of their apartment.

WHERE WILL I PARK MY CAR?

Believe it or not, you don’t need a car when you live at Vandalia Apartments. In fact, about 85% of our current residents do not have a car with them in Morgantown due to our convenient location near thePRT, bus stops and the downtown campus. If you do have a car and want parking, Vandalia Apartments has private parking in well-lit garage spaces located under the building and surface parking spots on an adjacent lot. Please contact the office at 304-293-0543 for parking pricing.

HOW DO PROXIMITY CARDS WORK?

Proximity cards are only given to those with an area 35 garage parking permit. Access to the building is managed by your student ID card.

ARE THERE LAUNDRY FACILITIES AVAILABLE?

Laundry machines are available in building 51. They are coin operated and easily accessible to all residents.

ARE THE APARTMENTS FURNISHED?

Yes! If you lease a two bedroom apartment; brushed-steel kitchen appliances, kitchen bar with bar stools, plush sofa and chair, accessory tables, curved shower rods, beds, dressers, desks, desk chairs and an efficient closet systems are included with the apartment. If you lease a one bedroom apartment all of the above, with the exception of the kitchen bar and bar stools, are offered to you.

WHAT ARE INDIVIDUAL LEASES?

These are leases signed by one individual for one bedroom/one bathroom. Each individual is only responsible for his/her rent. If the person renting the other bedroom/bathroom moves out, you are not responsible for the exiting person’s rent.

WHAT UTILITIES ARE INCLUDED?

Water, gas, electric, sewer, Internet, cable and sanitation are all included in your lease.

DO YOU OFFER ROOMMATE MATCHING?

Yes! The roommate matching system begins when the roommate matching form is submitted to our office. This information is taken and compiled manually to ensure that common interests are matched.

WHAT TYPE OF SECURITY IS OFFERED?

The card swipe system limits access through a minimum number of exterior doors by using your student ID. Only people living at Vandalia Apartments will be granted access to this building.

Vandalia Apartments has a state-of-the-art system keeping constant watch over the premises. Every apartment is individually keyed with heavy-duty door locks for a double layer of personal safety.

Exterior lighting provides illumination through all hours of darkness. A full-service state-of-the-art fire suppression and alarm system and 1200 sprinklers are also in the buildings.

Vandalia Apartments is routinely patrolled by UPD.

WHAT ARE THE PAYMENT OPTIONS?

DO I NEED TO GET RENTERS INSURANCE?

We highly recommend getting renter’s insurance. Your belongings are not insured be the lease agreement. Renter’s insurance may often be purchased as an option on a parent’s home owner’s or automobile insurance policy and it is relatively inexpensive in most cases.

WHAT IF I NEED MAINTENANCE?

The tenant should report needed repairs to the Apartment Office or to the website http://fsd.wvu.eduas soon as possible. If repairs, service or painting are required due to a tenant’s carelessness or negligence, the tenant must bear the cost. This will include items such as a clogged drain or toilet or a garbage disposal that has been damaged by a foreign object or abuse. Tenants are jointly and severally responsible for damages.

Prompt maintenance service is the goal of the department. In order to achieve this goal, we need your cooperation. The Apartment Manager is available at 293-5840, 8:15am to 4:45 pm, Monday through Friday. If emergency problems occur after office hours, you may call 293-3136. When calling, you must give your name, apartment number and the maintenance problem. Only emergency maintenance problems should be reported to DPS and all routine maintenance problems will be handled through the Apartment Manager’s Office.

HOW DO I RECEIVE MAIL AND PACKAGES?

Letter-sized mail and small packages are delivered by the US Postal Service to your locked mailbox located in the Vandalia Apartments main lobby. Larger USPS packages are accepted at the main office. FedEx, UPS and other package delivery carriers will first attempt delivery to your apartment door. If no one is present at your apartment to accept the package, the carrier will leave it with the Vandalia Apartments Office Manager. The office staff will secure the packages in the main office until you sign for and pick up your package.

IS SMOKING ALLOWED?

WVU is a tobacco-free campus, therefore, Vandalia Apartments does not allow tobacco use of any kind.

ARE PETS ALLOWED?

For health and safety reasons, dogs, cats, birds, snakes and all other animals or pets, except for fish, are prohibited from University-owned apartments. Residences are permitted a fish tank, not to exceed 10 gallon.
